Damian grew up in an orphanage.
When he learns that the benefactor who supported him all those years was actually his biological father, he leaves everything behind and throws himself into a foreign war, desperate to escape his family’s shadow.
On a battlefield where he has neither purpose nor a reason to survive, Damian drifts through endless, desolate days, until one afternoon, a letter arrives, soft as a spring breeze.
"Hello, unknown soldier whose name and face I’ve never seen.
I’m glad fate has brought us together like this. I’m a lady from a modest noble family, living in a quiet countryside blessed with beautiful scenery. I’m not anyone remarkable, so there’s little worth boasting about in my introduction."
The writer introduces herself as Lintray.
What begins as a chance pen-pal exchange slowly becomes Damian’s only comfort. And the woman on the other side of those letters gives him something he’s never had before, a reason to want to live.
After an unexpected accident forces his discharge, Damian sets out to find her, guided only by the address from her letters. But instead, he hears devastating news.
"The house burned down not long ago. It was completely destroyed."
"If by Lintray you mean the maid from that household... she’s dead."
A burned estate. Conflicting testimonies.
Did Lady Lintray truly exist? Or was she a lie from the very beginning?
Lost in confusion, Damian clings to one faint hope, that she might still be alive. With nothing but that belief, he heads for the capital, Nihiro, determined to find her.
Will Damian find Lintray again? And will he finally hear the answer to the words he never had the chance to say?
